Even though it falls into the trappings of a typical romantic comedy, Isn't It Romantic successfully mocks and satirizes the rom-com, with Rebel Wilson doing a great job as the lead.

Isn't It Romantic: Film Review
Directed by Todd Strauss-Schulson
Written by Erin Cardillo, Dana Fox, Katie Silberman
Starring Rebel Wilson, Liam Hemsworth, Adam Devine, Priyanka Chopra, Betty Gilpin, Brandon Scott Jones
Isn't It Romantic follows Natalie (Rebel Wilson), a New York architect. She works with her best friends, Josh (Adam Devine) and Whitney (Betty Gilpin). Natalie's been disenchanted with love and romantic comedies. She hates all of the lies and the common tropes that are shown in every rom-com ever. One day, after being mugged in the subway, she wakes up realizing she's been trapped in a romantic comedy. The rest of the film follows Natalie living through the movie she is trapped in.
To start, the film's script is quite mediocre. There is nothing special about the script. There are some laughs that come mostly from the gimmick that inspires the plot. Wilson provides most of the laughs with her observations and jabs at the newly-improved New York and the movie that she seems to be stuck in. The film runs like a rom-com, which seems hypocritical on the film's part. However, the film focuses too much on mocking the rom-com. The satirizing seems to take away from the story at the heart of the film so much so, that it gives the illusion that there isn't much of a story with which to begin. The script is delivered by very capable actors and actresses. Rebel Wilson does a great job as the lead, proving that she should lead more films than she does. Brandon Scott Jones is funny as the, albeit offensive, gay best friend Donny. Adam Devine is charming as always. As an aside, this is the 4th film in which Adam Devine and Rebel Wilson play love interests. Nevertheless, this is a very charming and feel-good movie.
