They're back! Red (Jason Sudeikis), Chuck (Josh Gad), and Bomb (Danny McBride) are back for another adventure. This time, with the help of Leonard (Bill Hader) and the pigs, they must save Bird and Piggy Island from the new ice-covered Eagle Island and their leader Zeta (Leslie Jones).
This film embraces the lunacy of its plot and storyline, more than the first film, thus making it more silly. However, it also leads to some pretty funny gags and clever puns and jokes. This film is somehow sillier, yet smarter at the same time. A lot of the humor is very juvenile, but if you're a bit younger-at-heart, it will affect you more (there is a sequence in a bathroom that . The additions to the cast are appreciated. Leslie Jones is hilarious and I like anything that Rachel Bloom is in (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is one of my favorites). The action is enjoyable, as much as any animated movie, and the plot is as well. There is a subplot involving three little birds that, while funny at times, is ultimately pointless. They come into play later in the plot, but it's kind of all-of-a-sudden. The animation is great. Also, this film has great heart. It finds a way to make the viewer care more about the characters (probably because they are not so angry). These birds (and pigs) are actually nice at their center. It really shouldn't be called "Angry" Birds, at this point. Overall, this film is a step-up form the original Angry Birds Movie, but it is still a kids' movie. It is juvenile entertainment that will be a blast for kids, but less so for adults.
