Review

This is not going to be a long review. I don’t have much to say about this film. There’s nothing special about it. Nothing important. Nothing of note. I enjoyed the first Hitman’s Bodyguard to an extent. I thought that it wasn’t great but it was a serviceable attempt at a buddy comedy. I think it was more memorable that I ran into my science teacher at the theater when I saw it, but that’s beside the point. y point is that I had some interest in seeing this film, and my expectations were low…. I don’t even know if they were met. I haven’t decided yet. It was really just… fine.

This is a very standard action flick. There’s shootouts and a lot of explosions. Actually, can we talk about that? Because, there was like an explosion every 20 minutes and I’m just like, “Can we get a break from the explosions, PLEASE?” LMAO. Anyway… the action is pretty good. There is one scene that takes place in a nightclub that was a standout for me. Honestly, I can’t really remember any other scene vividly. The writing is subpar. The humor is mostly stale, actually. The film relies HEAVILY on profanity to fill-in for actual jokes and you know, Samuel L. Jackson can only say “motherfucker” so many times before it becomes tired. I think that Ryan Reynolds was given the best jokes and does the best with his material. There are twists and turns in the story, one involving Morgan Freeman (not a spoiler… his name and face are on the poster), but none of them are jaw-dropping or shocking. Salma Hayek is a welcome addition to the cast. She does well to break up the male energy, but her performance is not very memorable, in my opinion.

Overall, Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard… ehh. I don’t know that I would recommend you go see this in the theater, ESPECIALLY if it would be your first time back. Go see In The Heights instead.

I told you it wouldn’t be long.
